Inspired by the last symposium, which come to learn or to exchange experiences about concrete pavements, we decided to pay special attention to the technical visits at this Symposium. We strongly believe that science meets practice on the worksite and that this the ideal place for learning and discussing. In addition, these field trips will offer excellent opportunities for networking between the delegates in a relaxed atmosphere.
We have prepared 2 technical visits for Symposium participants. Each of them will be devoted to a different topic related to concrete pavements.
- Technical tour 1 – Local concrete roads and bicycle paths in Skawina and concrete sections in tunnels on S52 in Krakow
- Technical tour 2 – Section of the concrete A1 Pyrzowice-Czestochowa motorway under construction
All participants have to make one choice on the Registration. Participation tickets will be included in the Symposium documents. Please note that allocated and confirmed seats cannot be modified and/or exchange at any time.
1. Local concrete roads and bicycle paths in Skawina and concrete sections in tunnels on S52 in Krakow
a) Local concrete roads and bicycle paths in Skawina
About 7 kilometers of pedestrian and bicycle paths made of rolled and poured concrete are being built in the city and municipality of Skawina. Pedestrian and bicycle routes (CPR) in Skawina are being built as part of the “Mobile Skawina” program. It’s all due to and initiative of the city’s residents. All bicycle paths lead to the Skawina Transportation Center. There cyclists can transfer to the train or bus. Most of the sections are being built using roller-formed concrete technology rolled RCC. Where there is no technical possibility, it is too narrow, it is not possible to drive a paver – a surface is made of poured concrete.
b) Concrete sections in tunnels on S52 in Krakow
A 12.5-kilometer-long Northern Bypass of Krakow (S52 expressway) is expected to be ready in 2023. A total of 29 engineering structures will be built (four bridges, 23 overpasses and two tunnels). The longest of these (653 m) will be a tunnel under the Pradnik River, marked in the documentation as TS-04. The second place will be taken by the MD-12 bridge. The 570 m long crossing will allow passage over, among others, the Wegrzce Reservoir No. 80, the Sudol Dominikanski stream and its tributary. The last place on the podium belongs to the TS-14 tunnel (496 m) under the hills in Batowice. The Northern Bypass of Krakow will have two roadways of three lanes each.
The tunnel in the course of the S52 Northern Bypass of Krakow, which is being constructed using the substructure method, has a concrete pavement.
2. Section of the concrete A1 Pyrzowice-Czestochowa motorway under construction
This is the backbone of Poland – the A1 highway. “From Gdansk to the Czech border in 5 hours.” The Czestochowa bypass, along the A1 highway, opened to traffic on December 23, 2019. It connected with the 33-kilometer section to Pyrzowice, which was completed in 2019, and further on drivers can take the A1 to the Czech border in Gorzyczki.
The Minister of Infrastructure has announced that the final works on the A1 highway are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2023 at the latest. This means that the route will already be fully passable without obstructions. The route leading from the south to the north of Poland is one of the most important routes in our country.
