Concrete Roads to the Green World

Symposium background

The International Symposium on Concrete Roads was organised the first time in Paris, in 1969 under the auspices of CEMBUREAU – the European Cement Association.

The next editions of the four-yearly Symposium were: 1973, Bern, CH – 1978, Besançon, FR – 1982, London, UK – 1986, Aachen, DE – 1990, Madrid, ES – 1994, Vienna, AT – 1998, Lisbon, PT – 2004, Istanbul, TR – 2006, Brussels, BE.

In 2008, CEMBUREAU handed over the patronage to EUPAVE, the European Concrete Paving Association. Since then, the following Symposia were organised: 2010, Seville, ES – 2014, Prague, CZ and 2018, Berlin, DE.

Right from the beginning, the World Road Association PIARC supported the event as co-organizer and since 2010, a close collaboration was also set up with ISCP, the International Society for Concrete Pavements.

The aim has always been improving and promoting concrete pavement technologies at an international level. The Symposium has proven to be a very successful formula for the dissemination of knowledge but also for the creation of a worldwide network of experts from road administrations, research centres, designers, contractors, suppliers, etc.
